Web site evaluation

I have chosen to analyze a website that is located at www.cal.org/resources/Digest.Flammarion.html. The purpose of this website is to inform visitors about a subject that they are interested in or need to know more about. It is a website that you can go in and look up information about a certain topic. It is similar to an encyclapedia or something similar to that. It could be considered a commercial website because they offer books and other things for the customer to buy. The information that you want to look at online, however, is free. The website is designed for anyone that is interested in the subject of the articles. It may be designed more towards a person that has used the website before, but it is very easy to learn. It also has a very good introductory page, which helps you learn what the site is all about.

There isn’t just one specific author to this website. Many different authors contribute to the many articles that this website contains. The authors also use other websites and authors to contribute to their articles. The works cited are stated at the end of each article. The content of the website is very in depth on most of the subjects. On the specific subject I used the site for, it is very in depth information. The information is not unique to just this website. Most of the information can be found on other websites. The advantage of this website is that it puts information from many other places into one place. The information on this website is current. The level of language that is used in the article on this website is a very high level. This shows that the author is a real authority or has received his information from a real authority. The work that has been done on this article is a very professional job.

This website is designed a little differently than most websites. It does have a business feel but it is designed more towards capturing your brains attention rather than your eye. This is because the site is more of an informative site rather than a buisness site. This site does not use many colors or anything to catch the attention of the veiwer. The author does use a lot of tables and charts which include color. This is done to teach the person a little more about the information being presented in the different articles. The reason that there aren’t many graphics is because this is an informative website and lots of flashy colors and ads are not necessary to accomplich the goal of the site. The biggest things on this site are actually the tables that are included in the text. This suggests to the reader that the information in the tables are important parts to the text and also suggests that the text is the most important part of the site. There is not a lot of color used in this site. I think this is because the authors want to show how important the information in the site is. They don’t use many colors to distract the reader from the actual text. The font is a very small font. I believe this is because there is so much information to be presented. They don’t want to take up too much space with bigger words.

The links that are on this site are actually very useful. At the end of the article I looked at it showed many different links to other websites. These websites were used in the wrinting of this article. The author is showing exactly where to find other information about the subject. The author specifically shows where he got the information used to create his own article. This website is a very well done site for an informative site. It is a very good site if you need to find specific, in-depth information about a certain subject. I found this website and article very useful to me.

Becoming a Dad

My wife and I have been married for over a year now. It has been an amazing time together. I love my wife very much. In May our lives are going to change. We are expecting our first baby. It is a time of excitement and nervousness.

I am very excited for this new opportunity to become a dad. I think that it will be a good experience for me. I am excited to add a new member to our small family. We will not know if it is a boy or a girl for about two weeks still. The day after Christmas is the day we will finally know. It seems like it has been so long. We are ready to know. It doesn’t matter to me weather it is a boy or a girl. There are things that would be good about both of them. I think that the excitement will groe even more when we find out what the baby is. I think that it will be hard work to be a father, but I also think that wi will be fun. I have many things to learn, but I think it will be okay.

Although I am excited about this, I am also very nervous. This is a new experience for me and my wife. This will be our first child. My wife will be an excellent mother. She has been around babies and she does great with them. I haven’t been around babies for a long time. I don’t know exactly what to expect. I know that there are many things that I have to do as a father and I am nervous about that. It is a lot of responsibility. I am nervous about how good of a father I will be. Hopefully I will do okay as a father. I think that if I follow the example of my wife things will go fine. This will be a great experience for me.

December is the Best

It is not hard for me to say that December is my favorite month of the year. There are a few reasons for that. It is the month of Christmas and New Year’s Eve, school is out, and I don’t have as much work as the rest of the year. All of these factors contribute to me thinking that December is the best month of the year.

Christmas is my favorite holiday. I enjoy how everybody is out there trying to serve others. People are thinking about others besides themselves. You see people out buying gifts for each other. You see people making goodies and visiting their neighbors. You also just seem to have a special spirit about you during this time of the year. I also enjoy the time that I get to spend with my wife and my family. It is a great time to be together. I think that this is a very important part of the Christmas seasons. I love that people are thinking of Christ at this time of year. He has done so much for us and I’m glad he gets at least one time of year. We really should be thinking about him always. This is the true reason we celebrate Christmas. I love giving presents, seeing the trees and lights and all the other decorations in the Christmas season

It is also time when school is out. As students we appreciate any time we can get off of school. It is great to not have to worry about tests and homework for a while. It is a very much needed break for all students. It is a time to relax. During the school year we always have some assignment or test on our minds. It is nice to not have to deal with that.

In my work we are very slow during the month of December. I do resets in grocery stores. Most grocery stores are so busy during the Christmas season that they don’t want us in there rearranging their products. This means that I have a little bit of time off. It is perfect to have time off of school and work at the same time. It really gives me a relaxing few weeks after so many busy ones. All of these factors added together make December a great month.

Finals Week

Finals week is a crazy time for university students. It is the time when all of them major class projects are due and when all the tests take place. Many teachers have all of the work from the whole semester due in the last week. This is a stressful time for most students. I am in this situation, like many of you, right now.

There is a week and a half left until all tests and projects have to be complete. I have many major projects due within this time. I am taking 15 credit hours this semester. It is the second semester that I have attempted this many credit hours. This semester, however has been much worse than my other one in the last week. I am taking my last math class of my school career. I have one test left in that class. I have a marketing class in which we have to submit a complete marketing plan. This is a detailed plan about a business that we have to imagine we are starting. An eight to 10 page marketing plan is due in this class by the end of the week. Along with the marketing plan is a final test that has to be taken by the end of the week. In small group communications we have many things left to be finished. I thought that this class would be an easier one than all my others. I was very wrong about that. It has been the class in which I have had more work. A four page paper and a seven page group paper must be done by the end of the week. A fifteen minute presentation must also be given. This presentation is on a service project that we had to do as a group. A final test is also going to be given within the week. My media writing class has a quiz this week. I must also finish one last news story and get more information posted to this blog. This class is the reason I am working on this blog. In my Spanish grammar and composition class we have a test and a six page paper due by the end of finals. This has all been overwhelming.

Finals week and the week prior is a stressful time in student’s lives. There is so much work given in every class. I am very glad that it is almost over. It is so nice when that final test or final assignment is complete. I am hating things right now, but in one week it will all be over with.

Immigration

Immigration is a very heated topic in the United States today. Many people believe that  no Mexican immigrants should be allowed in the U.S. Many think that it is a horrible thing that so man people enter the U.S. illegally each year. They are under the impression that Mexican immigrants should not come to the United States because they don’t speak English, or because they come illegally. I think that many of these people that feel this way have never really had contact with immigrants from Mexico. If they did, I think that their opinions would be a little bit different.

The United States was founded on immigration. Many immigrants from England and other European countries came to this land in search for freedom. Why do you think that people are still coming to the U.S.? This is a land of freedom and opportunity. Mexican immigrants are coming here to better the lives of their families. Conditions in Mexico are not very good right now and people want to escape them to have a better situation. Can you blame them?

The statue of liberty says on it “Give me your poor…” Are these people not poor? We have a welcome to the U.S. sign right on the statue of liberty. People should be allowed to come here. I am not saying that this should be done illegally but we are giving them no other choice. The process of becoming a legal U.S. resident is a very long, hard process to go through. It can take years sometimes. I have helped many Mexican immigrants fill out papers to become a legal citizen. There are many things that I feel are not necessary in this process. I think that it is very unfair that we don;t allow other people to enjoy a happy life like we all enjoy in the United States. God gave us a huge blessing of being a citizen in the U.S. Should we deny that opportunity to others? We are all here on this earth together, Why not work together to help each other.

I have spent a lot of time with legal and illegal immigrants from Mexico and they are some of the most humble, giving and hard-working people I know. I love them. I know that I am in the minority in this but I am very grateful that so many people from Mexico have come to the U.S.

Many people say that illegal immigrants are taking jobs away from American citizens. This is not true. The American citizens don’t want to do the types of jobs that immigrants have. Most Americans are not willing to do it. In my opinion we need immigrants to help our economy.

Why are people so ethnocentric? Why can’t we all just open our minds a little and let these people into our lives? Other cultures are a very interesting thing to observe and learn. We have a great opportunity to do this here in the U.S.

I know this is a very heated topic and many of you will disagree with me. Just remember that I may have experiences that many of you are unwilling to have. I know the Hispanic culture and the amazing people that come from it. I encourage you all to get to know it too. Maybe your opinions will change. The process to become legal in the U.S. should be made a little easier.

Spanish Immersion Programs

Spanish immersion programs have become popular throughout the United States, and now many schools in Utah, such as Sand Springs Elementary in Layton are starting to use these programs as well.

Sand Springs Elementary is one of 263 schools in the United States that have adopted a Spanish immersion program. These programs give parents the option of putting their children in a bilingual setting that allows them to fluently speak Spanish at the end of fifth or sixth grade. This gives the children the opportunity to take advantage of the current immigration situation in the United States

According to the U.S. Census, by the year 2050 the Hispanic population in the United States will be approximately 102.6 million, which is 24 percent of the population.

Jane Eskelsen, a teacher at Sand Springs, is one of three teachers at the school who believe these types of numbers are important. For that reason the school has agreed to help kids learn Spanish throughout their elementary years. This does not take away from the kid’s learning in English. The school’s curriculum is taught in both languages.

The Spanish immersion program at Sand Springs will help the kids involved be better off in the long run. When 24 percent of the population is Spanish speaking they will have the advantage of knowing the language and getting better jobs. Companies in the United States pay bilingual employees more than those who just speak English. It is a skill that is very valuable in the work place.

States such as California, Wisconsin and New Mexico started these types of programs over 15 years ago to address the needs of immigrants.

The children in these programs have had a very successful experience in the Spanish immersion programs. Over 80 percent of students who are in Spanish immersion programs, from kindergarten to sixth grade, graduate elementary with the ability to speak two languages.

The students at Sand Springs Elementary School enjoy what they are learning. “Most students do very well at their Spanish and enjoy learning,” said Jennifer Webster, the first-grade immersion teacher at Sand Springs. “Some may struggle at times but most are advancing very well.”

Volunteers are needed at the school. Many volunteers go to Sand Springs to help the children learn Spanish and the subjects they are required to know. “I love seeing the kids learn and speak Spanish,” said Taylor Arnold, a volunteer at Sand Springs.

The love for the program is common among teachers, students and volunteers at Sand Springs Elementary. Principal, Rebecca Hunt, is pleased with the progress the program has had in its first two years and is excited to see how the children continue to progress in the coming years. Sand Springs is in the first stages of its Spanish immersion development and teachers expect great things to come in the future.
